God's Faithfulness

"I will sing of the steadfast love of the LORD, forever; with my mouth I will make known your faithfulness to all generations."
- Psalm 89:1

That is my desire for this blog -- to proclaim God's faithfulness to all.

My Favorite Blog

I have read quite a number of blogs in the past few years; from those focused on technology issues, to "social" blogs, to food blogs, to friends' blogs, and many, many others in the ever-growing blogosphere. I think the blogs that impact me most are those that I can learn something from. It's interesting that when we read a blog, it seems as though we get to know the blogger personally in the process, though we probably do not even know him or her in real life.

At the same time, some blogs get started and quickly die off. I hope this one won't end up like that! Yet others are updated frequently but may reach a point where the blogger loses interest and it ends up like a relic from ancient Internet times. The interesting blogs tend to be those that are frequently updated, and never "finished" or "completed."

Yet my favorite Blog -- the one I read most often -- has already been finished and completed. There are no more posts to add to it. There are no posts to delete. There are no pending posts in draft mode, lingering for their time to be published. The Blogger has already written down all His posts, yet His messages are timeless.

My favorite Blog is the Bible -- God's Word. It is the Ultimate Blog.

The Bible is written by one Author, and yet it is a team blog. Its sixty-six books were written by many human authors throughout the centuries, and yet each author is fully inspired by God. Each book has different themes, yet they tell one story: God's redemption of humankind. It is the only story worth telling. It is the only story that is timeless and will never, ever be out-of-date.

The whole story can be summed up in one verse:

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life."
- John 3:16

I am so grateful that God chose to leave a written record of His Will for us little human beings. Our sole purpose in life is to glorify God -- to love Him, to serve Him, to know Him. God, in His boundless grace, gives us His Book so that we can know Him personally and glorify Him, though we are the absolute last to deserve a relationship with Him.

Great is His love for us all.

Snappy day? Dust and ashes?

You might be wondering, what in the world is a "snappy day"? Initially I chose that name for my blog because I was thinking of doing a photo blog, with the intention of posting a new snapshot everyday. So you know -- snapshot, snappy -- hope you get what I mean.

Well that's only the partial reason. A snappy day also means a "nice day". And since Psalm 118:24 tells us that...

"This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it."

...therefore every day should be a snappy day.

Lastly, snappy also means pleasantly cold. I happen to like snappy weather, especially autumn and not-so-cold days in winter. And incidentally, this blog was born on a snappy day. It snowed in my city for the first time this winter on January 30, 2005.

So, snappy day has many connotations. As someone who enjoys playing around with words (though this blog may suggest otherwise!), I really like the term snappy day.

Now, why is my blog nickname "dust and ashes"? Because that's exactly what I am. God created us from the dust of the earth (Genesis 2:7), and we will return to dust when we die (Genesis 3:19; Ecclesiastes 3:20). When Abraham was asking God not to destroy Sodom because his nephew Lot was still living there, he described himself as dust and ashes (Genesis 18:27). In the eyes of God, we are all dust and ashes. Lest I become proud and glorify myself instead of God, I want to remind myself constantly about what I truly am -- just bits and pieces of dust and ashes.
